History
Charcoal’s story dates back centuries, serving as a reliable source of fuel for civilizations across the globe. From its origins in basic hearths to today’s advanced production methods, charcoal has evolved into a fundamental element of outdoor cooking and industrial usage.
Charcoal production grew from 36 million tons in 1995 to 54 million tons in 2019. Part of that rise is charcoal is perceived to be a renewable resource. Charcoal is typically made from trees, which can technically be replanted. It is an alternative fuel source and is considered carbon neutral because as we burn the charcoal releasing C02, other trees that replaced the cut down trees are taking up CO2.
